Allowance for Children will be Issued on October 20th, 2012

The Government approved a monthly allowance of 20,000 MNT for 170,000 children under the age of 18 that will be distributed beginning on October 20th. However, some parents still do not know where to get the money from. Our journalist spoke with M.Lhagvasuren, the director of the Social Care Office and the Social Care and Service General Administration.

-Where can parents apply to get the allowance money from?

-The allowance is not distributed by Social Care and we have little participation. It is part of government policy and it is intended to support families and birthrate. According to the rules, parents should contact the bank directly to get the money. For instance, you can submit an application at any branch of a bank and open an account under a child`s name with his or her ID card or birth card.

-Does only a mother of a child have a right to open an account?

-No, not just parents. Care takers, accredited representatives, and any child above 16 years of age can open an account. Regarding children who are in a children`s center, a detention center, or, living abroad, a rule has been put in place. The rule states that the children`s center or the court decision enforcement general office can develop a deal with the Social Care Office in order to open an account on the child’s behalf.

-Are all the banks able to give the money to children?

-That`s right. Children can get the money without any fees by opening a bank account.
