Asian Inter-Club and Asian Cup Weightlifting Championships 2012 kicks off

The Asian Inter-Club Weightlifting Competition and 2nd Asian Cup Weightlifting Championships held their opening ceremony on 6 October at the Central Sports Palace. D. Jargalsaikhan, a senior official of the Culture, Sports and Tourism Ministry of Mongolia gave a speech at the ceremony. Over 150 athletes from ten countries, including China, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Iraq, Iran, Kuwait, Thailand, Uzbekistan, Yemen and the host Mongolia are competing in this tournament in 45 medal events. The Asian Cup Championships is a special one in that it will have three age groups competing: youth (up to 16 years old), junior (16 to 20 years old) and senior (above the age of 20).

The junior girls’ championship competitions took place on the first day of the competition and Mongolia’s A. Bumba-Ayush (44 kg), D. Ziimaa (53 kg), B. Myagmar (69 kg) took home gold medals in the snatch and clean and jerk lifting. Weightlifter D. Ziimaa, from Huvgsgul Province, spoke to reporters. “I have been training in weightlifting for over a year. It was my first time to participate in a competition. I took 30 scores in snatch and 40 scores in clean and jerk lifting. I would like to express my appreciation to my trainers and the Physical Education and Sports Authority of Huvsgul Province”. The Asian Inter-Club and Asian Cup Weightlifting Championships will continue for one week.
