China, Russia, Mongolia and South Korea to Promote Cross-border Tourism

China, Russia, Mongolia and South Korea have signed an agreement to collaborate on the growth of cross border tourism in Northeast Asia, an area that is already booming in terms of international visits.

China, Russia, Mongolia and the Republic of Korea signed the UNDP-supported memo, which pledges economic cooperation and opens the door for dialogue and collaboration in the energy, environmental, transportation, investment and tourism sectors.

James Macgregor, a UNDP tourism specialist, remarked: ”Northeast Asia represents one of the fastest growing tourism destination regions in the world. The potential for establishing cross-border tourism is huge.”

Other experts warn that the infrastructure of the region is not capable of handling an increase in international tourism visits, which The China National Tourism Administration over 85 million, with a growth rate for the region between 2000 and 2010 at 7.7 percent.
