Chingis Khaan’s Birthday to Become a National Celebration Day

On the Friday’s Parliament meeting, the vetoing of laws and parliament policy project was introduced. Since the project was not approved by the members of the parliamentü it was rejected, and it was decided that the current laws and policies will continue to function as they were.

When added to the Law regarding Public Celebration and Memorial Day, Chingis Khaan’s birthday was to be celebrated along with the national Independence Day in November. The day is to be a national celebration day, but not a holiday.

Parliament Member N.Battsereg stated that historic texts from sixteenth to eighteenth century reveal that the actual birthday of Chingis Khaan was on November 14 and that the great ruler’s birthday should celebrated on its accurate date. He further stated that November 26 should still be a holiday and that there is nothing wrong with two holidays.

Parliament Members D.Dundeejantsan and L.Tsog, who proposed the idea and D.Erdenebat were for the idea of making Chingis Khaan’s Birthday a national holiday and also wanted to keep the Independence Day as a national holiday, stating that the decision to make it a holiday was discussed for two days some 22 years ago.

Member S.Byambatsogt expressed his position against the holidays stating that there were “too many celebrations in Mongolia” from Independence Day in November, National Law Day in January, Revolution Day in July and many others and that this issue needed to be put in order.

After the poll, 70.2 percent of the members voted for the inclusion of Chingis Khaan’s birthday in the Public Celebration and Memorial Day Law.
