Ex-President N.Enkhbayar Convicted

Former president and chief of MPRP N.Enkhbayar was handed down a guilty conviction on October 12th. N.Enkhbayar was sentenced to four years in jail on corruption charges and abuse of power during his term as president. The city`s court staff delivered the conviction to N.Enkhbayar, who is currently being treated in a hospital. After the case hearing, N.Enkhbayar`s attorney S.Narangerel said that he intends to appeal to the Supreme court. The primary and appeals court found N.Enkhbayar guilty on charges that include stealing a donation of $113,000 in television equipment meant to go to a Buddhist monastery in 2000 and not paying duties on a shipmentof books that he authored from South Korea to Mongolia.

He is charged with abusing his power and defrauding city properties by falsely privatizing properties on UrguuHotel along with the former mayor of Ulaanbaatar Ts.Batbayar, the chief of the City`s Representatives Board Meeting, N.Bolormaa, and the former vice director of the City Property department D.Dulamsuren.

He is also accused of Causing great loss to city`s property and defrauding the “Ulaanbaatar Times”newspaper building. He was charged with illegally transferring the building to his sister N.Enkhtuya`s company “MediaHolding” LLC, and illegally converting subsidiary to his own company.

Finally, he is charged with defrauding 930 million MNT from “Erdenet” Factor along with the former head and MP Kh.Narankhuu, former vice director of the Trade and Production department “Erdenet” Factor N.Ganbat, and Director of the Henlon companyJ.Myagmarjargal.
