Rail Monopoly protested

The Trade Transportation Alleviation Council under the Mongolian National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MNCCI) has conducted its regular meeting to discuss the difficulties in trading and transportation as well as finding solutions to these issues. The Head of the MNCCI, Parliament member S.Demberel and other affiliated officials and specialists participated in the meeting.

To clarify, the council members have noted that the state officials and the public at large do not have an understanding or knowledge of the goal and importance of the transportation logistics department.

The issues facing this sector, particularly the railroad transportation capacity, insufficient number of wagons and the unstable price range causes delays and a rise in cost to the senders, transporters and intermediary companies. This then leads to distrust in related organizations. They therefore stressed the importance of increasing competition and a renouncement of the monopoly in the Railroad sector.

The lack of a legal environment, proper request and feedback checks and the lack of a logistics department makes it difficult to maintain ports in Ulaanbaatar. The borders are making it extremely challenging for any logistics departments to develop further. All of the issues and difficulties facing this sector have been introduced to the minister of this sector so that he may initiate a definite action toward improving the conditions for rail transportation.
